THE BEST RUSSIAN CONTEMPORARY ARTIST

The list of the Best Russian contemporary artists (49ART-arteex) -  of authors not older than 1960 year of birth , was made by  ARTEEX   based on their creations  evaluation , popularity , commercial activity  (their titles, awards , participations in exhibitions and fairs , auctions , mention in art-ratings , presence of their works in museum collections  and so on  were taken into consideration). 

Some authors were included in the list of Best contemporary artists within the programme   Discovery (based on expert recommendations), which allows to open new talents to the art-society.  

ARTEEX does its best to be objective making the list, but anyway it reflects only subjective position of ARTEEX.

The maximum number of names in the List is – 250 authors (Top-250). Nowadays the list is being supplemented. The list is open. ARTEEX is   considering suggestions of including authors in the list of best contemporary artists.

Egor Koshelev included in the list of the Best Russian contemporary artists (ARTEEX). Painter from the generation of zero. The paintings use quotes from art history from Renaissance and realism to street art and cinema. In the surrealistic world of the artist, reminiscent of a dream, mythological monsters get along with modern fashion and technology. “The plot in my vast majority of works determines the language. I see myself at the moment as a more “picture-maker” than as a “painter”, more a story-teller than anyone else. But the story that is being conducted, in my works, the narrative that is built up through their sequence, is dictated precisely by the interest in the problems of the development of art and the place of the artist in today's life. It turns out a kind of "art about art", in which there is a place for both a direct "serious" statement, and the grotesque, trolling, and pranking. I use several artistic languages. None is purely filmed. I do not approve of Soviet painting and grass-roots forms of expression, as something already ready for use, unchanged in its characteristics. Although much of my work goes back to these sources. It is quite understandable to the attentive viewer that I contribute a lot of my personal inventions to what can be indiscriminately called “big manners”, “Soviet neoclassical” and “neografititism”, “postgraffitism”.
