The list of the Best Russian contemporary artists (49ART-arteex) - of authors not older than 1960 year of birth , was made by ARTEEX based on their creations evaluation , popularity , commercial activity (their titles, awards , participations in exhibitions and fairs , auctions , mention in art-ratings , presence of their works in museum collections and so on were taken into consideration).
Some authors were included in the list of Best contemporary artists within the programme Discovery (based on expert recommendations), which allows to open new talents to the art-society.
ARTEEX does its best to be objective making the list, but anyway it reflects only subjective position of ARTEEX.
The maximum number of names in the List is – 250 authors (Top-250). Nowadays the list is being supplemented. The list is open. ARTEEX is considering suggestions of including authors in the list of best contemporary artists.

Timofey Smirnov included in the list of the Best Russian contemporary artists (ARTEEX). PhD in art, has scientific publications; author of the book «Photorealism in Russia. Watch and see». 2004 - graduated with honors from the Moscow State Academic Institute named after V. I. Surikov. 2004–2005 - Fellow of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. 2008 - Awarded the Gold Medal of the Russian Academy of Arts for a series of graphic works “Traveling around my room”. 2013 - Grant of the President of the Russian Federation for the best project in the field of contemporary art. “Oxymoron paintings by Timofey Smirnov” Timofey Smirnov is extremely interested in a different intonation, a different interpretation of the usual approach. In the originality of the non-original (even in the names of works and series), in a rather careful attitude to the sources of citation, this is precisely what is of interest. It seems to the artist, paradoxically and unexpectedly, to frame one context completely different, from the point of view of common sense inappropriate. Whatever group of graphic motifs he would be engaged in, he is looking for a “combination of the incompatible,” which in the Middle Ages served as an allegory of wit. This happened for a number of reasons, which also led him to professional art criticism, he studied on the samples, systematically flowing throughout the space of art history. And so the main theme of all his works and series was born, it can be defined as a space of culture and metaphor that allows you to go beyond the envelope of things and phenomena, and most importantly - everyday life, everyday life with an everyday touch. The methods of creation are almost poster-advertising, only if it is advertising, then an artistic vision and philosophical worldview. Thus, the three main components of the new - the notorious “good, old, forgotten” are fused by Timofey Smirnov (in the sense of a melting furnace) with their new perception together in modern times.
